We are delighted to have Toby Morris with us for an afternoon conversation on Tuesday 20 April. Toby will share some of his work with us, then there will be a conversation chaired by our own Kerry Ann Lee and time for questions from our audience.
Toby Morris is an award-winning illustrator, designer, writer, comic artist and father of two. He grew up in Wellington and studied political science and English literature at Victoria University, during which time he worked for Salient, made zines and played in the band Batrider. He spent nine years living in Melbourne and Amsterdam and now calls Auckland home.
He is best known for his non-fiction comics that highlight social issues, including his series The Pencilsword for Radio New Zealand. He is the author of The Spinoff's comic series The Side Eye, and is The Spinoff’s Creative Director. He won the Voyager award for Cartoonist of the year for 2019, and in 2020 his Covid-19 collaborations with Dr Siouxsie Wiles were shared around the world to huge acclaim, including being taken up by the World Health Organisation and winning a DINZ Best Award Purple Pin.
